Protect Yourself from Common Scams – Stay Alert!
Spot common scams fast—account takeovers, fake checks, phony investments, romance scams, and suspicious texts- and learn quick steps to protect your accounts.
1. Account Take Overs
Scammers use stolen info to log in, change your password, and lock you out. Use strong, unique passwords, and never share them. Reminder: Beacon Federal Credit Union will never call, text, or email you for your login credentials.
2. Unexpected Mailed Checks
Received a check in the mail you weren’t expecting? Don’t deposit it until you verify its legitimacy. It could be part of a scam that asks you to send money back.
3. Investment Scams
Promises of “guaranteed” returns or high-pressure crypto deals are usually red flags. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
4. Romance Scams
If someone you’ve only met online starts asking for money (for medical bills, emergencies, or travel), it’s likely a scam.
5. Suspicious Text and Emails
Be wary of messages about missed court dates, fines, or random job offers, mainly if they include links or request personal info. When in doubt, delete the message.
Stay Safe. Stay Informed.
Fraudsters may continue to evolve, but so will we. Beacon Federal Credit Union is committed to keeping you informed, empowered, and protected.
